Because every veteran has a story
The Veterans Writing Workshop (VWW) works closely with organizations who serve veterans dealing with homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health issues.
Working in partnership with organizations such as Common Ground Veterans Initiative and Jericho Project, the Veterans Writing Workshop provides free 10-week writing workshops for veterans in residential and clinical settings, publishes their writing in high-quality print anthologies, and allows veterans to share their accomplishment with the community in public readings and events.

The veterans who have written and shared their stories have been an inspiration to the staff and the other veterans. After each reading the veterans have participated in, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing the transformation in their self-esteem and confidence. |
It’s been my pleasure to work with David Surface of the Veterans Writing Workshop for the past five years. I’ve witnessed the extraordinary work he does with the veterans. He has the unique ability to help veterans discover and connect to a creative capacity they didn’t know they had. |
